Idiot TicTacToe

My first iteration of the project that I am writing for a firm that I wish to work for is completed. This version of Tic Tac Toe has some *very* stupid Ai, and only allows for Human X vs Computer O. I will eventually make the players selectable--including CPU vs CPU for Ai testing, and I will also beef up the AI so it's completely unbeatable.

Grab it here.

Editor's Note: I updated the release with some tips and tricks to use if you can't get it running. I included a batch file, and directions to run it from the command line if you feel so inclined. Directions are in How To Play.txt!

UPDATE: Links are broken =(

  1. it doesn’t work on my machine for some reason… faulty programming i believe…

  2. Um… Hard to run when I don’t even have anything that will run it, on either Winblows or Linux. Yare yare.

  3. It appears that both of you aren’t using JRE 5.0, which means you are in the FLIPPIN STONE AGE! Get with teh program people. Download the latest java runtime environment. How in the world are you people browsing java enabled sites??

    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

  4. I am, and have been using JRE 5.0 for a little over a year(installed it a few days after I built The Beast 2.0). So it’s not that. The stupid thing just opens up WinRAR to extract the .jar. I tried opening it with every freakin’ .exe in the JRE 1.5.0/bin folder. And the dang thing won’t run in Linux either.

  5. Oh okay. I will update the directions for how to play. File associates are bad ;) . You will have to run it from the command line.

  6. jduv, what about an ajax version we can play in the sidebar??? :)

  7. Maybe if I’m REALLY bored…

  8. That’s bad… my stupid butt beat it 10 times in a row. All you have to do is put an x on each end and then fill in the center, and it will NEVER beat you! lol

  9. Attach to the last comment:

I wasn’t calling your programming bad, I’m just saying that it’s that easy.

But keep up the good work, ya big ‘ol, hairy, no-driving, He-Haw lookin’ pervert!!

    Laters.

  10. Lol it’s cool dood. If this version of the program beats you then you should re-evaluate your Tic Tac Toe and kindegarten level logic skills :P . Next iteration should be unbeatable.

  11. C’mon man…tic tac toe…that’s so one-dimensional. Why not make a game called fee fie foe in which the main goal would be to use the main character, a surly giant, to terrorize the nerd realm of geekshire. He could have X’s for throwing stars (because we all know that all giants are really a bunch of ninjas under a poorly made costume) and O’s for breakfast. Now that would be a cool game. Hey, make it happen and e-mail me when it’s playable!

  12. Wow. Josh Kennedy commented on my blog. I’m too stunned to reply properly…

So this project turned out to be pretty interesting to program. I had to implement minimax to make the AI unbeatable.  Twas fun!
