I Heart Research Part III
I was informed today that my target platform for the network monitoring tool that I am writing has been changed to Windows Vista. I don't know if this is a blessing or a curse, but my proffessor informed me that Microsoft has some direct interest in this project. Again, a blessing or a curse? Who knows. This means that upgrading my current system is slightly justified =D. After I get in the parts for my new box, I can build a test bed for my Vista Development with the parts from my current machine. That is definately not a curse. Especially since I just bought this board and this processor =).
So at the expense of Georgia Tech I get to build a kick booty new computer system, and I get that FreeBSD/Gentoo/Debian (haven't settled on a Linux hybrid yet) NAT and Firewall box I wanted. Oh yeah, did I mention they are buying some of the parts for me?
VLC 0.8.5
Double bloggage today. The new version of VLC player was released about a week and a half ago. I'm way late, but its worth a post. You can download it here.
I like it better than media player classic (which is a hard act to follow). VLC had tons more features, and it has a smaller ram footprint. It's still as bare bones as a media player gets though. I will still use Winamp to enumerate my MP3 collection, but VLC is a much cleaner program. If they ever released a media library plugin for VLC I'd be all upons.
230?
I weight 230lbs. I started going to the gym about 5 months ago, but it really doesn't seem so. I have gained alot of upper body muscle, but I could still stand to lose around 20 or 25 lbs of fat. I still feel strange about weighing this much. The last time I weighed myself I was 215, and after 5 months of working out I guess a 15lb gain is pretty good.
I still need to change my eating habits and so I can reach my goal or becoming rockstar anorexic. Seriously though, if I am having dinner with you, make me eat healthy.
Movement
My boss at Perrie and Cole announced that he is leaving in two weeks. This could be good or bad. According to him we will all report directly to the firm manager, but if Leslie decides to hire another IT director things could get scary. I don't want to have to break another one in, so Im hoping that they don't hire anyone until after my internship ends. I am currently writing a version of unbeatable Tic-Tac-Toe as a demonstration of my skills for another firm just in case things go south.
I think everything will be cool, but Adam will be missed. He was the best supervisor I have ever worked for.
In addition, I guess it's time for a new blog theme. I picked this one up from Alex King's site for wordpress themes. I did some manual edits to the style to make it look more like I think it should. Kudos to the original author because it rocks!
A Fitness Milestone
Today I biked 10 miles. Well, it was indoors, but it still killed me. Ten miles on level 18, hill climb mode, in 36 minutes turns out to be around 3:40 per mile. Considering the blasted bikes at the CRC get exponentially harder per level and I am used to level 17 this is a fitness milestone for me. It taught me alot about how to properly use recovery times to flush all the lactic acid from my aching legs.
But now, I have a general idea of how much I can do, and therefore can create a goal for next time. In about a month I will attempt this suicidal run again on level 19, and hopefully keep the same if not a quicker time! For a fat kid, I'm feelin pretty good right now =). Now it's time to go undo all this fitness goodness with a nice hardy dinner.
