Anxiously Awaiting On Everything Eternal…

Whaaaaa?

I wake up this morning after smacking the alarm clock about 5 times and head down my stairs to take a shower. When I get to the bottom I see a very bizzare sight. There is some asian kid I don't know picking price stickers off of bags of cheetos directly in front of the door to my bathroom. Chalking this one up to early morning delerium I simply said excuse me and jumped over him into my bathroom. Feeling refreshed and ready for work, I step outside and he was still there.  I figured the roomies were getting an early start on partying, so I ran up the stairs and finished getting ready for work.

So after I toss on some decent clothes and run out my back door I get an even bigger suprise. There are people all over the place. Literally like ants. There is also a copius amount of equipment lying about the house in different places. Ladders, Lights, Monitors, Cameras. Normally I would have been only slightly annoyed by the presence of this many people this early in the morning, but they had turned my driveway into an obstacle course of ladders and power generators. I tracked down thier "leader" and politely asked for the stuff to be moved so I could actually go to work. About this time two of my roomies step outside and excitedly tell me that "they" are filming a commercial at our house.

Whaaaa?

At this point all I cared about was getting to work on time so I dismissed the whole ordeal.

So I just now got home and these people are STILL here. And, as I was walking up from where I parked I caught a snippit of what appeared to be someone talking about the Georgia Lottery on one of the monitors set up on the lawn. I'm still freaked out, but I definately want a piece of this commercial action. So I'll post more when I find out exactly what is going on.

Nerd Flaming (not to be mistaken as Flaming Nerd)

Okay I gotta be a nerd. Go read this really long article. Done? Good. For those (probably most) of you who read the first sentence and closed the window, the synopsis is that a ridiculously fast processor is available for only $130. Why is that cool? Because most high end processors run around $1000+! So as my shiny new SmithField 805D ships to my house, I shall blog about hardware.

In my opinion, computer hardware is the biggest ripoff on the face of the planet. When SLI became popular (it's actually a pretty old technology with a recent fan-base) everyone was excited because you could run two graphics cards in parallel. Granted, for crazy mad games like Fear or Oblivion this is good. You can turn the graphics all the way up and get completely immersed in those games--which look absolutely amazing by the way. But why are we obsessed with having the fastest system? I mean we now have Quad-SLI where you can run four graphics cards in parallel. And, the people that can afford this crap usually get 4 NVidia GTX7900's at about $500 a pop.

Excuze me??1? I can buy a nice 58 Reissue Les Paul for what these insane people pay for 1/7 of their computer system! So I reiterate, hardcore computer enthusiasts have waaay too much money. Then again, these are the same people with an XBox 360 and soon to be a PS3 sitting in their entertainment center hooked up to a 58" plasma all wired to surround sound that they tacked to the roof of their trailer.

Look mom, its a mobile redneck entertainment center!

So in closing of this flame, I would like to thank Intel for the 805D. Thank you for pissing off all the rich doods who paid 1000+ bux for a processor. It doesn't matter if it was by accident, or just because you wanted to one-up the AMD Opteron. Thank you. It's because of things like this I will forever be an Intel man.

Rapine: The act of Plundering

I moved into my new place yesterday.  Let's just say that I'm going to be buying some drain-o and LOTS of clorox at ghetto Kroger when I get home today.  The good news is, my room is l33t even though its a 10 by 10 box.  Heck it came with a queen sized bed, my own air conditioner (crucial) and a nice desk so, I can't complain.

I was testing out traffic today and it took me less than 20 minutes to get to work, and of course I was a hater at the 16-400 merge (memories of 7:22...).  That clearly shaves off at least 2 minutes.

So the lesson here was that it is good to pillage old apartments, especially if they are clean and have good food.  I will miss Chang's place, but my new relocation springs out from necessity and convenience.  Still, the ghetto slums roxxor.  Just don't go out at night.

Home Park 4 Realz

I posted on Georgia Techs illustrious newsgroups for a place to live this summer and I promptly received three emails and a phone call. Apparently roomates are in high demand during the summer. W00t! I'm going to go visit all of these places on Friday.

So now I basically have my pick of where I want to stay this summer. And more importantly, I'll have a much shorter drive / walk to the CRC for my summer workout routine., which means more raquetball. W00t x 2!

This summer should be pretty interesting. I should have more time to play than usual, but I still have to focus on my research work for Tech. Recommendation letters speak loudly when one applies for Graduate School.
