Anxiously Awaiting On Everything Eternal…

My head a’splode

About this time every single year since I was able to remember my sinuses become their own little ecosystem of pain. I had forgotten about this annual annoyance until I woke up Tuesday morning with a headache and a scratchy throat. One of my professors is convinced that I am allergic to mold, another thinks it's ragweed, etcetera. Everyone's a doctor these days. Alls I know is that my head feels like a snot napalm that's about to explode, and right now I wouldn't have a problem if it did. At least some of this blasted pressure would go away. I could take some pain medication, but a couple of hours later it would just start hurting again. Might as well just get used to the pain and be pleasantly suprised when it's not there anymore.

October

I adore October. It is by far the best month ever. Right now it's raining outside, and the october moon occasionally peeks out around some light cirrus cloud cover, making for an absolutely glorious view. I spent some time with my grandmother in the nursing home today, and then stopped by YHC to see the old proffessors. Dr. Nichols and Dr. Ramm are still making life miserable for everyone. I had an encouraging conversation with Nichols. He has always been a mentor for me, and hearing the words "I'm proud of you" from him was pretty awesome.

It's sad that fall break is one day from being over. I'm very good at relaxing =). I like being unproductive.

If you have already seen this, watch it again. All my nerd-thugs Holla! How about some old skool too?

Looks like my pain for this week has finally ended so it's time to chill out for a while. Fall break is this weekend, so I'm leaving Tech late tonight to head home--MGT and 4400 are worth being skipped for a 5 day weekend X)!

The Razer Thin Wire

I have two days to finish my research proposal, study for a Midterm, and do a bajillion other things that are on my agenda for this week. I feel really overwhelmed right now. Not only is school rough, but I have two grandma's in the hospital (both are doing fine, however) and a slew of other things going on right now. It seems I cannot find time to rest, but after I picked up my Bible for the first time since Sunday and read 2 Timothy 2 I felt very relieved. Life is stressful sometimes, but the Word of God always calms me down =).

"1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, 9 for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned. 10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.

11 It is a trustworthy statement:
For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him;
If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself."

~ 2 Timothy 2 (NASB)

I love that passage. Methinks I'll memorize it in honor of its amazingnesses.

Proposal, Proposal, Proposal!

All caps. So I have to write a research proposal for the Presidents Undergraduate Research Award. Why do I need this illustrious award? Well, it's free money, and if I don't find some of that I won't be staying in my apartment very long. Anyway, I was browsing the web looking for tips and tricks on writing one of these things, and I came upon this site. What I read was giggle-worthy (in bold):

Common Mistakes in Proposal Writing

  1. Failure to provide the proper context to frame the research question.
  2. Failure to delimit the boundary conditions for your research.
  3. Failure to cite landmark studies.
  4. Failure to accurately present the theoretical and empirical contributions by other researchers.
  5. Failure to stay focused on the research question.
  6. Failure to develop a coherent and persuasive argument for the proposed research.
  7. Too much detail on minor issues, but not enough detail on major issues.
  8. Too much rambling -- going "all over the map" without a clear sense of direction. (The best proposals move forward with ease and grace like a seamless river.)
  9. Too many citation lapses and incorrect references.
  10. Too long or too short.
  11. Failing to follow the APA style.
  12. Slopping writing.

Nice.
